The German Society for Human Genetics (GfH) was founded in 1987. The GfH is a nationwide scientific association of medical specialists and scientists working in the field of human genetics.

One of the central tasks of the GfH is the promotion of human genetics in all areas of research, teaching and practice. This is done in particular through scientific conferences for the publication of new results, through the promotion of continuing education and training for colleagues in continuing education and colleagues in related fields, and through working groups dealing with research and the practical significance of certain subfields. The tasks also include bringing together the various research and working areas of human genetics.
